Emotions… WTF?

Emotions have functions - after all, we’re born with them. Some inner parts of the brain have accepted the challenge to be a central system in our world of emotions and dang, if they aren’t super fast. So fast, we often experience an emotion before we’re consciously aware of it. Emotions quickly communicate important information to ourselves and to others, they motivate us to act, and they reflect a normal need. Take fear, for example - fear communicates a perception of a threat, motivates us to act (e.g., “fight, flight, freeze” etc.), and reflects a normal need for safety and survival. So next time you feel an emotion, ask yourself - WTF of this emotion? (What’s the Function of this emotion?) C’mon, what did you think it stood for?
