The second best time is now.”

An Intake Appointment

After the brief telephone consultation, if you decide you want to schedule an appointment, we will set up a 60-minute telehealth intake. During this time, we’ll be talking in more depth about the situations which are prompting you to start therapy, and I’ll ask questions to understand more about the path of your life - past, present, and future.

Prior to this appointment I will send you an invitation to set up a new account on my secure client portal. I have a paperless office, so through this portal I will send forms to register you as a new client and to gather some personal information. I will also send you some checklists to fill out. This completed information can be easily sent back to me through the secure portal and is stored as part of your electronic record in my office. I will need this information returned at least 24 hours before the appointment time.

Without this advance information, we can still meet to start the intake, but we will probably need to set up a second appointment to finish it. Completing and returning this information in advance makes this initial appointment more time-efficient and, therefore, more cost-effective for you.

At the end of the intake, we’ll collaborate to start developing a treatment approach, plan, and goals for psychotherapy. Clients doing evidence-based psychotherapies most often meet either weekly or bi-weekly, as this allows for continued momentum and enough time to practice skills between sessions. If you need a different frequency, I am open to that and we can discuss it. Psychotherapy sessions are typically 45 minutes, though 30 minute, 60 minute, and 90 minute sessions are also available.

Once you are established on the secure client portal, psychotherapy appointments can also be requested through that portal.
